Is Twitter full of spam?

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by sara77ozelek, Apr 29, 2011.

I recently created new Twitter account to promote one of my sites and all over a sudden I have hundreds of followers. I don't even know those people. How do these spammers find my Twiwitter account? Does anybody else have similar experience?

Absolutely full of spam and worthless to market to as they are all marketing themselves and could care less what you have to offer. Even if you try to start a conversation outside of marketing, sending jokes or whatever, you don't get responses.

It all depends who you have on your Twitter account though, really. Are they spamming you or just following you? You won't see any tweets by them if you're not following them as well (I believe?)!

Really, it all depends on who YOU are following

But overall, I don't like twitter anymore. It was fun when it was new.

There are a lot of twitter-ers who network and tweet back and forth, but with plugins that automatically tweet blog posts, there is also a lot of spam. Also, there are programs that will manage twitter follow lists and will follow new people it finds. If those people don't start following them in return in a short period the program will remove them from the follow list. It's frowned on by Twitter, but is pretty prevalent.

Personally, I use feedburner to auto-post my blog posts and don't give my twitter account a second thought. Maybe I'm missing out on something, but considering all links out are nofollow I'm more concerned about SERPs.

I do not care to much about them either, but people are free to follow none-the-less.

You can find spammers on every network you can imagine...

The whole world are not spammers...if people are not following you, then
you probably are marketing your product to the wrong crowd, or you are
marketing to other spammers is pointless by the way...

Of course if you are not Charlie Sheen, then you are not going to
get those million+ followers that you would like to have....

You have to be known, popular, well liked, bla, bla to be followed,
and for people to continue to follow you...I think you get the idea....

otherwise, why would anyone really follow you?

I've never understood the twitter hype. I really couldn't care less what people are doing every second of the day. I remember when it was first launched it was dubbed as being the micro-blogging platform LOL at that. It's just a joke thats what it is.

Twitter is full of spam just as any other website. I personally dislike Twitter and don't use it much because it has never shown good results even with thousands of targeted followers.

Twitter is great to have intelligent discussions with like minded people you may or may not know personally. I've often managed to interact with celebs on twitter. But yes spam is a huge problem with twitter at the moment. Although twitter bans thousands of accounts a day, the problem is its too easy to create a twitter account and start spamming

I don't have such experience, but I listened, I think that it depends on that you have a new account and sudden you get a huge number of followers, in this case Twitter will undoubtedly suspend your account.

Twitter is just like everything else on the web; it's full of spam. It will only get worse as more and more businesses and individuals start spamming.
