Monetizing busy forums

Discussion in 'Forum Management' started by spanners, Feb 14, 2011.

    Hello,

I have been searching around and reading various posts and information on how difficult it is to monetize forums, but there are some people who say that if forum is established and popular they can be good earners.

I am just wondering from people's experience here what sort of traffic numbers will convert into good earners.

I have a busy and established forum in pet care niche averaging 8,000 daily uniques and 32,000 page views. Very reluctant to charge for premium memberships but any advice on other ideas? Are these numbers good enough for decent income.

    Thanks!

Have not tried anything yet, and definitely will try adsense, particularly hoping adsense for search will do well.

Well, it can be done with adsense, Kontera, and various other ad networks.

We run a pets community as well - we had luck with Adsense + Kontera before, and we were generating $10/day with only 500 daily uniques and 5k pageviews before.

If the forum software you are using allows it, set up premium memberships. Offer the paying members a handful of perks (larger avatars, custom titles, a colored name, a forum only they can access, etc) and you are sure to pull in some cash that way.

You could try signing up with affiliates and then posting some good deals on pet related goods so you'll get a % commission from all the sales. You can even scour a bargain forum for pet related special offers.

Generally speaking, Adsense isn't the best route to go down if your website is only forum based - as your CTR will be extremely low.

You mention you are in the Pet Care niche... try researching some affiliate offers which related to your niche, it may take a little time to find something that converts, but in the long term it will show significantly more profit than Adsense.

Furthermore, why not contact some brands in the Pet Care industry? You may be able to come to an agreement on private advertising - again, time consuming to begin with, but it will prove so much more lucrative.

Adsense is the best. However you can contact your niche related company's to advertise in your site. Make a list of those company's , contact them.

May be you will get some response. Good Luck.

    Google Adsense
    Amazon Associates
    Skimlinks

Skimlinks is probably the least noticeable for your membership. When someone post a link in your forum, skimlinks turns it into an affiliate link. Its seamless, your membership will barely notice, and it makes you money from affiliate sales.
