Do not use hidden text or hidden links
Do not upload your pages with the irrelevant words
Do not create multiple pages,domains,sub-domains with duplicate content
2)You should have a sitemap on your website.
3)Donot keep your keywords little.Use keyword phrases.
4)Keyword in Domain name make sense.
5)Describe your site in META and insert keyword in meta tags.
6)Use heading tags and alt tags.
7)Do not use graphic links.
8)Update content regularly.
9)Do not stuff keywords.
10)Define which products have the highest profit margin.
11)Name files with keywords.
12)Make sure about page load.

1,Image Optimizing :Give image name as your keyword
2.Meta Title : Most of the search engine will crawl upto 60 charts For home page target 2 to 3 keywords and For the sub pages target only one keyword as a main keyword
3.Meta Description :160 char, use sentence with keywords, don't stuff your keywords.
4.Meta Keywords :insert all the keywords hear with prefix and suffix
5.Content Update : For example create new blog and update content.
6.Robot.txt : create robot.txt file , This File will help your website to block the page from crawler
Upload it in root folder

I have a query here. Talk about ecommerce websites which generally have almost similar products. Now these products are available from many websites and so their features, etc. would be the same. In this case google might penalize a new website coming up with same products and similar content for product description. How do you tell google that it is not content duplication and a pure genuine retailer trying to sell his products ?
Do you have any suggestions for such website owners or webmasters ?

for e.g. you can consider a Sony Digital camera being sold by 100 different websites, but because it is the same model it will have the same features.

You should also set up a redirect in your .htaccess file too. That will help as well, though it is not the most important, and you should specify which is to be used for your site www, or no www, having both has shown to have more of a negative effect.

Key with onpage optimization is to be unique & creative as this reads to the search engines as natural; and you're not just spinning artificial articles. It's not hard to spend 15-20 mins writing a 400-600 article for the relative page, and this way you can also plan out your deep linking for your website.
