Something very strange is happening with Google. :S

    Hi Dpers,

I have been doing great amounts of SEO on my site for a ridiculously competitive keyword and my ranking has been increasing rapidly but for some reason on my computer my site appears on the first page and on another computer it's on the 6th page. I'm not logged in and even when I reset my cache and cookies nothing happens. Does anyone know what this could mean? Could Google update the site for everyone in a few days and i'll be on the first page?

    Regards,
    machej

    Leave about it.

use rankpay.com and check your actual ranking with keyword.

Probably google knows your (probably the all) pc and displays the results according to your search or browsing history.
If you have cleared the cookies and browsers on both of the pc's you have tried and if you still find your site in different ranks then probably google should have another ways to determine our pc's to display different results to different pc's.

Sounds like Google is serving results based on your IP. It does that from time to time. Very irritating!

    Machej,

Are you sure that you are not logged into google in some way? Maybe into you hot mail account? It certainly sounds like that type of issue. I've also seen weird things going on with the SERPS. I noticed an increase in traffic on one of my blogs and a check showed the blog in position number 12. I confirmed the result with a program that checks rankings. I was so happy! All my hard work was paying off! Unfortunately, a couple of days later the site had dropped out of the top 100. I wonder whats going on with that !?!

Use a few proxies, private or public, doesn't matter. Try using some from proxy.org - and google your keyword. It's what I do sometimes, and it works great.

Thanks for intoducing me to rankpay! It said my site was currently #16 for term 'earn cash online' (site in my sig). If I look for it on my own computer I'm way down on page 8 for this search term! Can anyone quickly verify the rankpay result or am I really on page 8 of the results?

Try checking the results from AOL Search. They mirror they results of Google US so you'll have a good idea of where you site actually stands :p

Wow thanks! aol.com has my site at #16, aol.uk at #69. google uk at #82 and finally google.com. Can't tell, my browser always defaults to google.uk even if I put the .com in my browser... Could it be my American hosting? Fine by me although I live in the UK.

I like the TrafficTravis SEO tool in instances like this. I find it always gives me the proper rankings. Plus you can select which google to search on. So I could check google.com, google.ca, google.co.uk, etc.

Also check the top right corner of Google results for 'web history'. Click to change the setting to 'don't use web history'.

You could just use a different browser, no need for proxies or anything and it works.
