    Hey guys and Gals :)

I started a blog recently and wanted to get some expert advice on when/if i should offer advertising?
I want to allow people to advertise and give the money to some sort of charity but a friend told me advertising can cause people to leave the blog or be annoyed...

    any ideas/guidelines?

    Thanks heaps!!
    Pete

I think that your regular readers won't get annoyed if the content is good. As for visitors I think that it's up to you to decide when to start advertising. My suggestion is that you start thinking about this after two months after blog creation. Good luck!

is start using small ads and figure out ifu want to use adwords or try to get other sites to sponsor/advertise you

either way make sure to not make the ads huge since no one likes huge ads

If i were you....I would put up affiliate ads so you can make money right away.
You can see advertising but I believe you can make alot more if you go to a CPA
network and place affiliate links on your blog.

You can go to affiliate networks like Clickbank, Commission Juction, Neverblue.
There hundreds of different affiliate products you can promote.

Keep giving them valuable information and useful knowledge.. once you get say 300 - 600 unique visitors a day maybe you can throw something in and split test it. Good luck!

Don't fill your website up with advertisements so that your audience will get annoyed. But do it neatly. Give them the content they want, don't throw in random advertisements everywhere. Here's an example of what I mean - http://www.smashingmagazine.com/ Notice how the content is clean and adfree, all advertisements are on a sidebar.

I think after 6 month only you can reach some satisfied traffic for your blog. After that you can start allowing ads so that it worths.

It is useless to have ads on a site if it receive less than 100 unique visitors per day.

If you have a targeted audience and your ads are streamlined into your site, then you could put ads up right away. The main thing is you want to be on topic, not annoy your readers, but still make money. Some sites can have 50 sales a day and make over $50 a month.

If you are getting a decent number of unique visitors daily then, yes you can go ahead with ads
Ironically, most of the bloggers start using ads right away with the intention to earn money but
the rule of the thumb is: if their will be no/less users then their will be no clicks & no clicks is roughly equals no income

Rest up to you to decide

Wow!! thanks guys!! amazing information!!! :)

I think i will strat with a "donate" button since i plan to give all money to charity anyway... i will see if this generates anything and when my traffic picks up i will add some sort of banner advertising... do you think that's a decent game plan?

    Cheers!!

after your site is well established.
Well established meaning: You have some good quality backlinks, you rank well on the keyword that you are targeting and you have a decent amount of traffic.
IF you are asking for adsense, then it will be after 6 months.

Around 30 days is enough to get some Google permission to put up ads. But it also differs depending on how you handle your content or blog readers.

I think they will only get annoyed if the ads are really in their face and disrupt their user experience.

A good strategy to have your advertisements on your sites without driving off your visitors is to put the ads at the footer, they will all load. Of course for CPM purposes, unless you can put them nicely at your website without being so annoying. And if the visitors don't visit your site anymore, instead, they need your site. That's the right time to put ads.
