Linking To Your Own Site

    Hey

What is the best procedure for linking to your own site within articles. For instance, if I write an article about Leonardo DiCaprio and in the article I write let's say "Leo starred in Inception." I would usually link the word Inception to the Inception review on my site. Is that a good procedure?

Another thing I usually do is let's say I write an article on Brad Pitt and I say "Brad Pitt is one of the top actors." I may like Brad Pitt to the Brad Pitt tag page on my site, so wegotthiscovered.com/tag/brad-pitt. Is that fine?

The only concern I have is that people tell me to noindex my tag pages. But if I do that, then does it still make sense to link to tag pages from the article? And should I even be linking to tag pages in the first place, will that hurt my PR?

^ The SEO technique you mentioned is good technique and is recommended by many SEO gurus.

I am also doing exactly same on my blogs dezineweblog.com & wittymag.com so don't worry about it :)

Regarding tag pages, I would not recommend to noindex your tag pages because they are also the part of your site so why should stop them to be accessed by search engines?

Ok cool. So what's better though, linking to an article or the actor's tag page?

^ I would say both. Because the more you link to "anything" the more value "that thing" will get. It can be a page, post or tag.

Doesn't it make more sense though to link to an actual article than a tag page since when people search on Google what comes up is articles, not tag pages? what's the benefit of linking to a tag pg

I would link to the article page and make sure the anchor text of your link is the keyword you want your target page to rank for.

its better on the article page itself... as much as possible place the link in the body of the article to make it look natural.

ok, I used to only link to the article page but I started linking to tag page also because I saw the website Screen Rant (screenrant.com) does it and they're one of the top film sites and their owner is an SEO expert so there must be some value in it, no?

Matt, these types of internal backlinks are great and necessary in ANY kind of good SEO service. And yes, I usually link a lot for TAG pages. As you can see in my website about Psoriasis (signature), I use tags a lot. Don't need to link on the article because the links are at the bottom of the post.

Tag archives are good if you want to compile something. I usually use this for more pages indexed on Google and also for attacking other keywords. This keeps my posts with good titles for people, and not only SEO, SEO and SEO.

Ok but if I'm linking to tag pages then I shouldn't noindex my tag archives right?
