    They can get your new sites indexed faster and also help good enough in improving the SERPs but it does not mean that you can only depend on them, you should try getting all types of backlinks for your site e.g. social bookmarking, commenting on blogs, guest posts

    means a link in the signature can be a backlink to our website or blog. I just know about putting a link in the signature. But are all the forums can put a link in signature?

    Don't spam forums as you'll get banned. Also make sure to read the forum rules first, some may not allow affilaite type website advertisements and others require you to have X amount of posts before getting a signature up and etc.

    I mainly focus my efforts on forum signatures, articles, press releases and high PR .edu, .gov blog comments, forum signatures are a natural way to get traffic and anchor text backlinks.

    Well I would agree only with the indexing part. Yes forum signature links help your site get indexed faster, however you have to be commenting regularly or should have a genuine comment in the thread which has been indexed already. You cannot get comment on sections like general chat or movies or games and try to get backlinks. I also dont think it really helps that much in the SERPs of any site. The only advantage is indexing ;)

    Signature links are useful because you gain traffic from them, and if you have a signature link on a do follow forum it will count as a backlink, and you will get a SEO boost from it! :)
