    you can create free blogs to start with.

    Try to create your mini site with free blogs first and track it.. but yeah most of my mini sites are targeted to the main site as well.

    One such example is scrapebox squeeze page...
    Go for it if you have a solid product/service to offer
    & you will see it converting real well
