Will I get penalized by Google if I rewrite all my content?

    Hello,
As stated in the title, will I get penalized by Google if I rewrite all my content?

Basicly, I've got a website with 6 articles, each around 500 words. I've been thinking about redesigning the whole site and also add new content. The keywords will be the same. I will probably also change the URLs slightly.

Can I do this (without Google being suspicious and remove my site)?

    Thanks in advance,
    Smurtey

You shouldn't see any problems. You'll have a different site which will rank differently to the old site due to the new content for example, but Google won't penalise or remove your site.

    There shouldn't been any problems.
There would have been problems if you have had copied content.

No, google won't do anything. Infact this is normal with any site.

Great. Thanks for the response, I'm going to start building the "new" site now.
If I publish some of the old content on a new URL (still same domain), should I do a 301 direct from the old URL to the new one?

    Thanks,
    Smurtey

Even if you do rewrite your content make sure there will be atleast 60% uniqueness. You can check it with some tools. Because sometimes after rewriting the article may pass copyscape but it is not much unique.

If you will write different content then why Google will penalize you ? No problem, keep it up.

you wanted to redesign your site and put a new content, then i can see no problem with being penalized, but this will affect your rankings.

You wont be penalized at all, if you follow all the best practices of on-page SEO while rewriting your site.

6 articles isn't very much content. Why not just make some more?!?

Updating the site by redesigning it or writing new content is normal wit Google and it will not penalize you. Continue with the work.

I agree with everyone else here - you shouldn't be penalized at all as every site is bound to be redesigned & new content added; if anything, Google might like it better than the old site, especially if it's neatly coded etc. :)

You shouldn't be penalized, but with only 6 articles, it may just be better to create all new content.

I've re-written content before numerous times and don't remember ever seeing any issues. I may have moved up or down from the spots I occupied, but was never penalized.

Ok, perhaps I am missing something, but to do a quality job on re-writing will take some time and effort.

Why not use that same time and effort to just write new articles?

Furthermore, perhaps this will fool google. Ok, great. But what happens when your visitors find nothing but articles saying the same thing over and over? The user experience is going to be garbage. Who are you writing for? The google bots or your visitors?

Why not aim to please the visitor AND the bot? My opinion - vistor first.
