Ads on a .org?

Hi, I own the domain myroommatesucks.org
We are trying to sign up for ads with xtendmedia, but after doing some research I have seen that many advertising companies discourage/do not allow ads on a .org site. Is this true? If so what are the consequences, reason, wtf?

I have not heard of that before at all but they probably just mean that because .org websites are usually for businesses and corporate websites, they would not normally have ads on them.

Yes. There is no legal reason why you can’t put ads on a .org domain. There are many sites that are commercial and run on .org domains. There may be a moral reason why you may choose to not run ads on a .org. If you believe that it degrades the .org domain brand, then you may choose to only run not for profit sites on the domain. But it is completely your choice.

I agree with most of the comments above... .ORG is okay to post ads. We have a lot of niche sites that have ads using .org domains.

Any domain extension is fine. The most important thing is the content on your site. Not the domain.
