As far as I know seo for images would involve, adding alt tag to the image so that search engines know what the image is about, reducing the load time for the images on the site & giving good file names to the images.
1. Find the right images 2. Use the keyword(s) in the file name 3. Create descriptive alt text 4. The right anchor text 5. Make sure the image matches the content
To optimize image for SEO, it is required to give alt tag with every image. like <img src="" alt="keyword">
give the name your image like you upload taj mahal image than give alt tag to specify that name in image tag.
for an image of apple don't give the alt tag only as 'apple' but also put the tag as fruit as the name apple is related to apple company

use alt for every images,if you using wordpress. you can using SEO Images.it will automattically give alt to your images.
Content below the image or around the image is useful to evaluate image relevancy. Suppose we are talking about Japan nuclear crisis, the image below the content is more likely to related to the topic.
