Who to trust: Google Analytics or Hostgator?

Discussion in 'Traffic Analysis' started by ztr3ngth, Jan 2, 2011.

    Hi,

I own a tech tips blog,

Google analytics on average says i get 15-25 uniques daily with about 50 page views.

However, in my hostgator control panels stats, it says I get 125-250 uniques daily with 600+ page views.

Who do i trust on this matter?

thanks in advance, im really confused =[

Check and see if your control panel stats includes bots, e.g. google bot, yahoo bot etc.

my control panel stats clearly say that all bots aren't included in the unique visitor stats

however, one thing strange about my control panel stats is that it says roughly 40% of my visits come from completely irrelevant and sometimes foreign language blog pages which do not have a link to my site at all.

    Confusing eh?

Google analytics will do the job, actually on the end, there is no consistency in every tool you can use to track your traffic but what you can do is to stick for one tool.

Same with me lol, I have on the hostgator stats that it shows i get 1000 visitors but google on the other hand says differently. So what i did was check my adsense stats (which doesnt lie) and the adsense stats match google analytics, so im trusting google analytics.

yeah i always check adsense aswell (despite getting barely any clicks =[ and thats got the same stats as analytics,

however as far as I know, adsense only shows the amount of impressions your ads have seen, so its measuring a different thing really, say if you dont have ads on your home page

If Google Analytics is properly set up. Check Live HTTP Headers firefox plugin shows that the analytics script will be called after the first GET call. So i think, its quite accurate in getting statistics.

So i'll stick with Google Analytics Stats.

aw yeah after doing some more googling I've kinda figured analytics is more accurate

such a shame though cos hostgator control panel stats are so much more appealing :(

First check the setting of both the tools i.e. Google analytics and hostgator control panel. Mainly time period setting.

In my opinion google analytics is the good for this.

Google Analytics because it more accurately shows real human visitors. Raw web logs are full of fake bots, and noise.
