What is really causing an internal server error problem?

    Hi,

I have complained many times at hostgator about the "internal server error" I always receive on my Level 3 VPS package. Every time I have a chat session with there technical support they always told me that the problem is solved. But after several days the error is back again. About 4 to 5 tech support I think have told me this.

Now, I am really confused what is causing this problem. Anyone can shade some light on me? Is there an out of memory problem that needs to be upgraded? Or some apache configuration problem?

    Thanks

Either you have misconfigured permissions or HG took your site offline due to high server loads or usage by setting a or few files to zero permissions.

Might be your VPS reach to the limit, or you have done some changes in the configuration which will redirect you,
Better you should check the permissions.

when updates are done in server, in that cases most of the time you may start seeing that error, so you may want check if its happening when the cpanel updates happen, if your host is doing it or its set to auto updates

Check in suexec_log also. This one deals with permissions to execute cgi and other scripts. When a cgi fails to execute because its ownership is wrong, the generic Internal Server Error shows in the error log, but a more specific error detailing the permissions involved shows in this log.
