    RSS is extended from XML.
XML is the general language, whilst RSS is specifically for publishing feeds.

XML is the main language. RSS, Atom, NewsML, SportsML and others are just subtypes

RSS in its different version is just a super simplified XML type. Most often used just for headlines.. in fact many people think RSS is just headlines but that couldn't be farther from the truth.

XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is a syntax. RSS (really simple syntax) is one application of that.

RSS is a subset of XML. XML is eXtensible Markup Language, RSS is a defined set of tags in XML. RSS is defined as Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary. RSS files are formed as XML files and are designed to provide content summaries of news, blogs, forums or website content.XML is not always RSS, but RSS is always written using XML.
