Links from Facebook- can they help you to get better rankings in Google SERPs?

There are few services out there providing Facebook accounts and Twitter acc. as well as 1000 'Likes' or Retweets and so on.

Is it only for traffic or can it actually help to rank higher in organic google Search Engine Result Pages?

    Has anyone tested/tried it yet?

Every link helps to a certain point... As said above, those are nofollow links, but while they may not provide link juice to help in your rankings, they would provide you with direct referral traffic.

Basically, every link counts in a different way....but you definitely don't want a link pointing to your site from lets say, porn, hate, warez and so-on. If you can hold that true, then again, every link counts....lol

You have the wrong approach my friend...

If 1000 people "LIKE" your page on Facebook that's worth something to you regardless of Google valuing those likes or not.

Effectively in the long-run Google "likes" what visitors "like"! Get my drift?

Do you guys really believe the nofollow myth too? Soooo.. sandbox, nofollow.. all that huh.

Anyway, it doesn't matter if those sites are nofollow or not, they still count as links. Google said in a blog that they were going to be incorporating social media in their algorithm, so yes. It matters. The more tweets, likes, shares, the better you are. That means visitors are enjoying your site. That is a good thing!

    I fully agree with you.
As per my experience, when we started our online shop we were hunting mainly for Do Follow links, which are hard to find in certain niches and it didn't take us anywhere.
Then we decided to give a s...t on all that Do Follow myth and build links mainly by blog commenting, well knowing 99% of those links to be NO FOllow but niche related and we could see an improvement in the SERP's and PR.
Now let's talk twitter. We did not use twitter until a year ago and now we have more than 4000 followers and again, it did help with traffic and with ranking.
Google isn't the only SE and we actually see more and BETTER traffic coming from Bing. Google traffic has a higher bounce rate than Bing or even Yahoo traffic.

Matt Cuts himself recently said that Google does look at Facebook and Twitter, especially shared links and retweets. I wish I could find the video..but it's out there.

And a quick note on nofollow: I think that helps Google easily identify a website that is trying to manipulate the flow of their pagerank. Unless all of your links are nofollow it could surely raise a flag. If you had a blog and all of your links were dofollow except for 1 link wouldn't that be obvious?

Remember, Google has a roomful of PHD's working on the algorithm...so that would be common sense.

One of the best way to get high targeted traffic is through facebook and twitter, and traffic is very essential for the ranking of the site.

Twitter and facebook provide nofollow links. So, they can't help in improving SERP. They are good for traffic increase.

Yes, people are really hang on their social media to get anywhere on the web these days. So, why do you think google don't?
Ya know, people on google are also twittering around. And do so much blogging, and post them to any social media they want.
So, basically they'll put social media as a factor on their ranking algorithms.

I think they also help in ranking indirectly while they are providing good traffic for your site.

I think the popularity of your website on Twitter and facebook kind of social networks have some impact on your website search engine rankings. If your website fan page have lots of likes, that should give a positive indication to google while considering SE rankings for your website
