Backlinks are not the only option!

Diversity is so important in any business. If you only focus on YouTube traffic and suddenly they stop letting people link to their websites what are you going to do?
You have to have many strategies in Internet marketing If you want to be successful.

 

Backlinks are important for a well rounded SEO plan, but like the OP stated, they get way more hype than they should.

If you are looking to put up some backlinks, get ones that count. Find highly relevant sites and focus on getting links that hold value. The way Google treats backlinks probably will evolve, but I wouldn't expect them to become any less valued then they currently are, just more and more focus by Google being put on relevancy. Seeing harsher penalties for backlink spam is something I expect will be coming soon, so getting 500 backlinks today could crush your site tomorrow if you don't have the content and relevancy to back them up.

Good "on page" SEO and good content should be the focus of someone looking to improve their position in SERP's, with backlinks being used as an accent. Backlinks should not be the backbone of a website.

Pick some search terms and look at the results in Google search. There are some sites with killer content and good "on page" SEO that are destroying high backlink volume, and high PR, sites. I frequently come across PR0 sites with absolutely no backlinks that are beating the pants off high PR or high volume backlink sites when doing keyword research. In my opinion, webmaster priorities should be to put focus towards the content, then "on page" SEO, then finally on getting the word out about your awesome content through backlink building.

As a bonus, if you deliver on the content end, you stand a much better chance of having others do some backlinking for you at the always low price of free. There are people out there, like myself, who will give out free doFollow backlinks to sites that deserve it because of their content. Google does like relevancy and you can boost the relevancy of your own site by linking out to other sites that have good content and are relevant to your own. You might lose from traffic to the sites you link to but, if done properly, Google will reward you with a lot more traffic than you will lose to those highly relevant outbound links.

 

If done properly then they're great traffic streams. As with most things, traffic streams also mean backlinks.

when we are talking about backlinks thats mean we are writing article, making blog, doing bookmarking, networking, forum posting, blog commenting etc.

Of course, Backlines are not the only option, you need to work on whole SEO such as Directory submission, articles, blogs, social networking, social bookmarking, ads and more to get traffic. Use some good quality content which is matter a lot. After that choose the right keyword that will help you in link building, content writing and offpage Submission.

 

Google is too intricate to understand,we cannot find fixed answers ,we can only go by experience and that is the reason SEO is treated like an art instead of a science.
