    Hello,

Currently I have a main site with categories. I want to buy some niche domains that can link to categories. Is this good or bad for google ranking?

and the domain names I bought have populair keywords in the name. How should I forward them best for google?

What do you guys think of this?

    Greets,
    PP

Just having other domains pointing to pages on your site won't really do anything for your Google ranking - good or bad. I suppose the only reason you'd want to do that though is if you thought traffic was coming in to those domains - is that correct?

If the domains have traffic they might also have links, in which case there is some value. Make sure you 301 those domains to your category pages. Or alternatively build up little microsites and put links in to relevant content on your main site.

    Hi there,

301 Redirects are the best for google to follow. Like carleisenstein said, it's not going to do a whole lot unless there is already identified amounts of traffic heading to those domains already. This (I believe) is to do with algorithm changes in the last few years. People used to buy up all domains they could with all kinds of site relevant keywords in them and point them all (with 301 redirects) to the main site. This used to give the page linked to a high ranking as a result. This is no longer the case and helps create a fairer competition between sites.

Your best bet is a well designed site, with good content, good 'on-page' SEO and a back-links from reputable sites. Like the above comment. The better the structure of your site the better it will be for GoogleBot. Redirecting things from domains that cost you money won't do a whole lot for your rankings.
