Posting in nofollow links will still get you traffic and it does not hurt the visibility of your website. However, it will not help in improving your visibility and it does not have that much bearing in your search engine rankings. So, posting in dofollow links gives you more effective results.

Mixture of Nofollow & Dofollow backlinks are good for SEO, as only dofollow link could be mark spamming by search engine.
I think it's not effective since most serious blog have their comments 'nofollowed' and need very strict moderating. Just create good content for your site and Google will find out.
i have experience this and it really has some effect in getting backlinks as well as search engines optimize your posts from those sites which are high page rank so try to post on article directories which have high page rank.
Commenting on blogs is also a great way to build backlinks. good thing in blog commenting is that while it takes longer it is still efficient
