I would like to notice that it probably wouldn't be such a large problem for google to execute javascripts in a sandbox and limit the resources they would have.
As anyone with even limited knowledge in CS would be able to tell you its quite easy to abort execution of a interpreted language since you have full controll over the interpreter.

I didn't get a chance to read this whole thread, but it's interesting to note that the original author mentioned...

Sometime during December Google started indexing javascript popup windows on a site I manage. It's indexed everything (most of these are simply photo englargements for products).

I also recently read a thread on another board (can't remember which one) that involved Google Guy. Someone was complaining about a site they managed which had a huge overnight drop in serps. Many people commented on the fact it was running ad space for some potentially spammy sites. Google Guy brought up the term "bad neighborhood" and actually provided links to one of these sites and highlighted where the site had huge lists of invisible links (using CSS formatting).

So it certainly seems that Google can read javascript and CSS (or at least some portion).

This thread is getting pretty DEEP. Google has always maintained that webmasters should just carry on and forget about the changes they are/ were and will make.

We all like to stay in tune but not obsessed.

I think you are too tough on Google. They were the first search engine to delive more or less effective results. And there is always a way to hide your content from them - i see no point in accusing them of stealing. And I am most negative about your predictions of Google's future.

Things have been changing since the thread got started. Right now we have Google spokesmen manipulating the SEO world rather than working on improving the algorithm.

I would think that Google as all the major search engines would have some kind of plan in place to prevent any Javascript hijacking
