Dense Keywords at top of page

    I've read in a lot of places that if you have the keyword(s) you're targetting placed multiple times near the top of a website page, it really helps that page's ranking. I've been using this technique, but I just want to make sure, is it true?

    Well I'd say sure, it's true... but I think you've overplayed it a little. Search engines all use complicated algorithms that look at many aspects of a website in determining it's ranking. To get top results and rankings, you must ensure that you tailor your website to all of these things.

    Mention your main keywords a few times near the top of the page. Sprinkle it lightly amongst the rest of your content and then increase the density slightly again at the bottom of page.

    On your site you should place your css in an external file to reduce code density.

    Also your header should try to inlcude a key word. Also place it in h1 tags

    instead of this;

    <font size="+1"><b>W4T3R - Everything You Need </font></b>

    should be something like;

    <h1>Funny Stuff, Humorous Pictures and Videos</h1>
    <h2>W4T3R - Everything You Need</h2>

    you can use css to set the font sizes for h1 and h2 elements

    Keyphrase at the top helps , but remember to use it judiciously. Too high a keyphrase density near the top can be taken as keyword spamming, besides it will not look good to the visitors also. A good strategy would be - use keyphrase at the title, then in description, then in header text and sprinkle it across the page, keeping in mind the visitors.

    Wow man that was so helpful! I'm going to do that; put the keywords on the bottom too, and do that header thing. You are a smart man.

    I just incorporated what you said. Hope it works out!

    Just watch out... There is such thing as keyword spamming..

    So when all these people are saying to "use it judiciously" make sure not to overdo it or you will be kicked out of the rankings altogether.

    Can the keywords on top of homepage be the links to other pages or should they be just keywords without links?

    Links near the top are going to be treated differently than text. They may help the lower pages rank higher if the source page is ranked well. On page factors are weighted differently in each engine. Some (msn and yahoo) like pretty spammy pages while google tends to like links more than anything.

    Don't worry I haven't overdone it. In the update I just did I only added "humorous pictures" twice.

    Yeah, links matter much more nowadays than keyword density. I'd spend my time building links.

    hmmm , i think even if you donot concentrate on keyword density , you can still do well . Just use keywords when you article demands it . overusing keywords may make your site spammy .
