Billboard Advertising?

I've searched around but can't find much info on how well billboard advertising works for websites. Has anyone tried it? How much traffic was there on the road, and did it result in an increase in your traffic?

As a rule, billboard advertising is designed to increase the effectiveness of your other advertising in the marketplace. That's why you don't see very many call o action messages on billboards - like "buy now" or "call for information."

However billboards can also increase top of mind awareness, so if you have a long term plan, you could use a billboard to kick off your campaign.

I would not expect that you would earn back your investment in a billboard based on visits from the billboard alone.

The cost of billboard advertising ranges from about $700 to $2,500 a month - Although I dont think its worth having a URL link.

Its a lot of money - your not guaranteed targeted visitors anyway. People tend to ignore billboard advertising.

Don't waste your money. How many people are going to remember your URL by the time they are near a PC?

So i guess the general thoughts are it isn't worth it. Although I still might do it just because I think it would be awesome, and could learn something.

I don't think billboard advertising will be effective, as someone said by the time they are near a PC they will forget URL.

best method for online advertising is online ads. It is much easier to click a link, or button, or banner, then it is to remember and typein a URL. Plus chances are if you see an ad online you are a tech savy person who at least knows how to use a PC.

Billboards are great to advertise fast food cause everyone eats at fast food places. But most people are not computer savvy.

Most people know how to go to a website though and use the internet regularly.

well majority of billboard wachers are people driving in cars, thus average age will be around 30. (I'm thinking US demographics). Most of the people in my city/state (Indiana) aged 30+ probably won't go out of their way to access a URL they find online, unless it was very, very specific to their needs and they couldent live without it.

I guess if you have a effective ad that would stay in people minds and if it was in a effective area where alot of people see the billboard then it would deffaintly be effective...

but if its in a poor position its worthless..

    thanks

How often do you remember billboards?

They work well for nearby restaurants, but for websites - nobody remembers what they saw while they were driving an hour ago. Billboards last about 10 seconds in viewer's mind, that's it.

Not a good use of your money.

Then again, it's better than those billboards that say nothing but:
