What should keyword density be?

Hi, I was wondering what is the ideal keyword density for your site? Also, is the keyword density for the code separate from the keyword density of the actual text? Any good free keyword density tools you know of? Thanks.

I'd recommend using the Firefox browser and the Quirk SearchStatus addon (there's several more SEO addons you can use). Then just do a search on Google for your keyword, right click on the SearchStatus icon on your bottom menu bar and select the keyword density checker.

Previously I would have said 2% with LSI keywords, but that won't do it in most cases as far as optimizing your site for a particular keyword, many times it won't even show up using Google's keyword tool (URL feature). Here's the stats from a website that had it's keyword optimized and it was #1 in the SERPS.

    Body: 66 times out of 1841 words @ 7.2%
    H1/H2/H3: 23 times out of 197 words @ 23.4%

Keyword density is the percentage of the keyword that appears on the site rather how frequently the keyword appears. There is a particular calculation to it.
But again the keyword density varies from website to website.Normally the keyword density calculation is being done in a way.for e.g. it takes into account the text components in the HTML in the page for e.g.(the meta tags:Title,Keywords,Alt text,Description and Comments).when considering this measure we take into account that for e.g if you have 50 words on your home page,5 words in your title tag,10 words in your key description,50 words in you alt tags, and 5 words in your Comments tag and that sums up to be 50+5+10+50+5=120.
Now calculate the number of times that word came up For example, if your keyword appears 4 times in the home page copy, 3 times in the Title tag, 5 times in the Description tag, 20 times in your Alt tags, and twice in your Comments tag, your total keyword count is 4 + 3 + 5 + 20 + 2 = 34. So with a total wordcount of 120 and a keyword count of 45, your keyword density is 34/120 x 100 = 28.33%

Forget about keyword density percentages, and focus on your users! If your users find the content amazing so will Google, regardless if keyword density is 1% or 10%.

Keyword density is just a myth, don't worry too much about it

I would have to say that as far as keyword density you want your specific keyword at the top of the list but don;t go overboard. The main thing is quality content that people will want to go to and return to.

The thing isn't of keys density percentege, but of content in general, words surround key, topic, size of text, text2html ratio, competition, etc. etc. I guess the rule here - write for a human (as Google tells).

I don't think there is such thing as ideal keyword destiny. Most importantly you should not over use keywords. I try to maintain 2 - 5%.

Under 5% for everything, depends what we're talking about, in content? In the site title / meta desc? etc.

The percentage of relevant keywords on a web site, compared with all text on the site is known as keyword density. For effective optimizing that will boost your pages into the Top 20 spots on the major search engines you are aiming for a keyword density of between 2 - 5%.
