The only way to become a better writer is by writing - asking people for opinions - and learning proper grammar.
I have been looking at the online websites.. Learn to be a better writer but I just get nothing out of them... Anyone use any type of software? Honestly how does my writing look to you?
+1 on writing is the best way to get better at writing = ) Proper grammar is key, but I think being able to connect with your readers is far more important. The analogy I like to use is you have to be able to write as if you're writing (actually talking) to one person. You also have to be clear and concise with your writing about and not ramble on - keep it in simple, but yet informative (ok, now I'm rambling..haha)
xbat, you're asking an awfully general question. Why not show us a sample of your writing so that someone can advise you what you should concentrate on going forward?
Better writers are better readers. Study grammar and learn to find your "voice." The one that will make you unique. On the web, you don't have to sound like a Harvard English professor, you just have to sound like a real human being with a personality, and let that show in your writing....
That's a vague question in and of itself, really. The best way to grow as a writer is for critique of your work from both writers and "non-writers". It's important for you to really think about what you're looking to convey. Writing is about style, comprehension, and the way in which you are able to portray a thought, event, or scene to the reader. Hemingway, for example, used brevity to create some of the most vivid yet vague writing in american literary history. Also: Read more! Find some authors who interest you. You'll find yourself becoming swayed by their writing style. You should not, by any means let them define you as a writer, but every writer is a bit of every experience he or she has lived through, which is important to keep in mind~! Also keep in mind grammar and vocabulary throughout your work. Another general suggestion I have is not to bulk it up too much--keep it short, sweet and to the point! But, post some of your work, ask for constructive criticism! You'll surely grow and thrive!
Hi xbat, a better question to ask is how do i make money from better writing? Or do i want to make more money from what writing can do? I don't know which is your motivator but i would guess its wanting to make more sales from your writing skills. If that's the case your solution is simple. It really doesn't matter how good your writing is as long as you have an irresistible offer. If people want it you can simply put a link to pay and it's done. But if you don't have the best product you had better be a very good writer because you have to become a salesperson in that case. If you are a beginner you only need a simple template that has boxes available for you to fill in the details and it generates the sales letter for you. A Marlon sander has "push button letters" you can't go wrong with that. Otherwise if you just want to improve your writing skills for the sake of it I'd say don't waste your time because writing is way overrated in my opinion unless your job as a journalist is at stake. I hope this has given you some other things to open your mind and help you to see some more options.
Becoming a better at anything... involves practice, practice, practice. However, i will give you a more specific way of looking at this. As others have asked what is the intent or gerne of your writing? If your pressed for time and want to get on this right away then start: Study/read the material you find interesting or is what your looking to emulate (copy) Write your version of the style you want to try and go for. Have others critique/read out loud your finished work. (this is important, you will fix a lot of unintended errors with this part) I looked at your profile and wanted to see if English is your native language. Obviously this is a relevant starting point and one that cannot be overlooked. If it is then follow what I and others have suggested, especially the "reading part" this will help expand your vocabulary and way of expressing a thought , etc.. But! if English is not your native tongue then you'll have to work on command of the language both written and in conversation. I'm a native English speaker (although as an American I'm sure the good wayward : ) folks of the UK would debate that...) and I know that learning English is one of the most difficult languages to master.
Writing is a great skill and writing unique with quality information is an art. It very much depends on 1. Your qualification 2. Your exposure 3. Your experience 4. Your insight, locus of control 5. Your power of perception When you combine all the above mentioned points at some particular point, you create something better. Try this and best wishes
Don't rely on automatic softwares, nothing more than wastage of time. study and Write yourself, after that take guidance from any senior.
If you want to learn how to be a better writer you have to know how to get pass writer's block. You have to learn how to write automatically without thinking too much about it. Your writing style will become more natural and engaging. The more you write, the more you will come up with automatic formulas to make your articles flow. You have to learn not to over analyze everything and find "your voice" like some of the other members said...
Experience is the Best Teacher in any sphere of activity and writing is not exception to the rule. You try sincerely, and you will overcome any of the writing problem, which you may have.
My best bet is to use the most possible correct grammar structures in your messages and to use words as simple as possible and the ones that are widely understand or known. Hard words don't seem to attract visitors.
Four of the most important things about writing are: Spelling (Speaks for itself, if people can't read the words you wrote - your wasting your time.) Punctuation/Grammar (Adding, nonsense; punctuation into - a sentence really. Can put people off.) Readability (The layout of what you have written, for example, you wouldn't set out a comparison of two items in list form under each other, they would be beside each other.) Engage-ability (How well the writing grabs the reader, and keeps them reading.) That's my two penny's worth.
More writing and more reading is what will make you a better writer. Obviously, share your writing with people who can give you constructive feedback, and then keep writing... The more you write, the easier it becomes.
