    They both have value, but my experience has shown article marketing back links far out weighs forum back links.

    For me it depends upon the time you have for promoting an online site/blog.

    Better is to start with articles where you would research lot of things to create an article.And an article gives all the link juice to your site.while outbound links keep on changing in the forums.

    and if you can write 10 articles you have enough information for participating well in the forums.and you would feel easy to respond in any of the topic related to your niche....and backlinks will go on raising.
