After reading so many posts about backlinks and etc, its just unclear what is backlink. On Google website I found that a command link: as they saying is not working anymore. Why than some websites connected to another and if the website have 100 pages , than there should be 100 backlinks and Google count this as 1 backlink because of the IP or what? Another scenario some of the websites that i researched have backlinks to them self and Google is not counting this as 1 backlinks. Actually some moving companies that I was researching have 6 or 8 backlinks to themself. Some people say that factors are: Relative content Page Ranking 4 and up Age factor Dofollow tag There just no clear explanation for me what is the factor and how to create a backlink. There have to be a logic to this. Thanks,
A backlink is simply a link back to your website from another website. Age, PageRank and Relative Content can determine the "strength" of the backlink. The DoFollow tag is supposed to keep Google from making that a backlink, but this isn't necessarily the case for other search engines.
I'm not sure if PR is still has a huge factor in getting quality links... for me as long as its relevant, do follow and no bad neighbor is really the factor.
A "backlink" is simply any link from another site that points to your website. Whether it has anchor text or not can influence how the spiders boost your site's rank in your niche. For example...you can have a link that points to your site simply with the http:www.domain.com...then you can have a link that points to your site having what is called anchor text that pertains to the topic of your site like.....dog walking...if your site was about walking dogs. This tells the search engines that your site is likely to be about dog walking when they follow the link. The spiders are supposed to obey the "no follow" tag, but in my experience it seems as though some of them ignore it and still follow. Maybe I could be wrong... I also still believe that the PR of the page that links to your site is helpful since it makes logical sense. For example, if I was regarded as being important (having high PR) and I point to you (I'm recommending you), people who recognize me as important would respect my opinion of you more and so...a link from a high PR site should be more valuable than a link from a low PR site. Yes we know backlinks are important but many focus on them a bit too much and there is several other things to look at as well. Making sure anchors links and even having a clean coded site will increase popularity.

Backlinks means links that are pointed to your website. Quality backlinks depends upon the relevant backlink & dofollow backlinks If you are having many backlinks from one ip then it is consider as a 1 backlink so always try to get backlink from relevant & high pr website
Backlink is just the link to your own site. But itz not always the scene that google gives you a weightage for that link. Google will only give weightage to the do follow links so check if your links are do follow or not.
Thank you everyone for the replies. The reason why i concentrate too much on the backlinks because from my research and comparison of few websites the only difference why some of them have better search engine position is a numbers of backlinks and pages + domain age. I do understand that there hundreds more factors but looks like these are main. Do you guys think backlinks from directories are better than from articles and forums or there is no difference, or it's related to a page ranking of the website from which you getting a backlink?
As we know content is king and backlink is queen , So backlink is backbone of sites , if you many many backlink you are always to be on top position.
