Looks like Bush just took away your right to gamble online.

    http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/10/13/business/gamble.php

So much for land of the free. ;) If someone wants to enjoy some online gambling for money shouldn't they be allowed to?
I'm sat here in the UK enjoying a nice online game of poker for money right now as it happens. :D

I started a thread about this topic nearly two months ago. There is nothing free about the United States. The people living here only have the illusion that they are free. Yes, the banning of online gambling is a complete joke.........and I don't even like to gamble.

I'm laughing at the irony of BOTH of you.

The United States is a free country.

Why? because if you said stuff like this in Iran right now (except imagine Iran just outlawed Internet gambling), your head would get chopped off, but before that your family would get tortured in front of you.

Now tell me: what's wrong with improving the quality of millions of families' lives?

But you're not free are you? That is my point.

I cannot believe how blind you are mate. You are losing rights all the time and you're loving it. LMFAO

@ chulium, why bring Iran into this? I'm talking about the USA, land of the free (for Bush to do what he wants to take away your rights as he sees fit.)

It's an example for comparison. Dictatorial countries where there truly IS no freedom has penalties like this.

Yeah, Bush did it all. Congress didn't vote on it or ANYTHING.

    Look who's talkin!

I'm not losin rights cause I never gambled anyway. Besides, gambling isn't a "right". It's a disgrace to the person, to his/her family, and to his/her values/morals. Outlawing Internet gambling will improve the lives of millions of people in the country. It will take time, but it will work.

Maybe you don't know how the US system works (I wouldn't be surprised). Most people gambling online are doing it from jurisdictions where gambling is illegal, so they had been circumventing the law by gambling online. this just closes the loophole.

I don't really care either way, if people wanna go broke wasting their life away, more power to them. but make them sign a waiver first - if they lose all their money due to gambling (hell, throw drugs, being stupid, etc), then they will not be sucking off the federal dole afterwards. Sucks to be them. I believe in the right to be stupid, gambling is stupid.

Since when is it any govements job to police the freedom of someone to spend money as they choose?

Surely you didn't think how much that goes against the grain of eveything the USA is about.

What will you support next, only eating chicken cause it has less fat and "improves the quality of millions of families"?

I think we should ban being allowed to spend money on made in china products. That would "improve the quality of millions of families" by creating jobs to replace the cheap ass products imported from china.

Since it's a crime to those close to those who gamble: swindling money from families, divorces, hard on the children, thievery, murder, things like that.

No, I wasn't aware we're against the collapse of families...

No, I don't like chicken a whole lot.

You mean Wal-Mart, not China ;) lol

Noppid, are you not concerned with the unintended consequences of gambling? Higher bankruptcy rates, crime, drug use are all higher among gamblers.

That is a moral issue. If people go broke, they lose out. I could care less and see no need to regulate people wasting money.

What's next, a cap on the price of the TV you buy? A cap on how much of a vacation you can take based on your income?

More people go broke by loan companies selling them money, pronounced loans, that they can't afford then go broke gambling for sure.

You are making morals judgements. People like you scare the shit out of me.

I'm not making any moral judgements. People go broke from gambling, have no jobs, no money, probably no place to live, possibly addicted to drugs. What do you do with them? Put them on the government dole afterwards? Let them rot in the gutters?

You are taking this to an illogical extreme instead of thinking about it honestly.

    What's next- no porn?

Don't ever take away from me my pornography
We obviously don't agree on what's obscene
I have the right to choose what I
    Want to see and read

Don't try to take away from me
My right to privacy cause what I
Do is no one's business but me

So stay in your missionary position
I hope that you get bored to death
There's no way in hell I'm going through life
    Having vanilla sex

The government's trying to get into
Your bedroom you better lock your
Door and close your shades because
There could be someone watching you today

Why do you try to make things illegal
Why do we have to be 21
Are you afraid that people are having
    Too much fun
Why do you care what I do in my bedroom
Why do you want to know how I screw
It seems to me you've got nothing better to do

You are being narrow minded. People that spend beyond their means are the prime targets of the corporations. You have to be brain dead to think that their families will be safe without "online" gambling. The corps will sell them something to get the gambling money they can no longer spend and lend them money to do it beyond their means to pay back.

I got one for you that contridicts your moral values and your goverment. They, your goverment, run the lottery and will not regulate people from gambling in the lottery.

    Wake up my friend.

The corporations are behind it all! I knew it. Figures. That's always your refrain and it makes no sense. Always trying to rob people blind. Dammit.

I know the government runs to lottery. It is just a tax on stupid people, tricked into thinking that the money is going towards education or whatever. It's stupid, too.

You're losing rights because it starts with our lovely government controlling how WE spend OUR money (at least what's left of it after they get their hands out of our pockets with the multitude of taxes upon taxes).

Once they have us self-righteously happy with not letting us choose to spend our money on online gambling, they find something ELSE we shouldn't be doing online with OUR money.

If we keep sitting back and watching our government erode our rights bit by bit, like slack-lipped idiots, there will be a time in the near future when we will be totally under the control of the government and won't be able to buy a pizza without someone telling us we can't because we have high cholesterol and besides we can't afford it this week ...

I don't want to give up any more control over my life or money to our government, which has proven time and again its inability to work for my good and protection.

And I certainly don't want any self-righteous do-gooders to tell me I can't spend my hard-earned money any flippin' way I want to.

I'm pretty sure people don't play the lottery because they think their money is going towards education.

Here in Florida, that's the gambit it was sold under. All the lottery signs say "Given 900 trillion dollars to education since 1990" (or whenever it started). Too bad, that the money that lottery "added" was just taken out the backdoor through other bills.
