Nobody can give you this idea that this much of link popularity can provide you PR1. Its just all about the quality work; and sometimes, even Quality work also can't give you good PR.

I'm doing SEO for a few months now, I have links in several high PR sites - IN MY NICHE - including high PR blogs, but my PR still remains 0 !
    How do you explain that?

And I DO think that high PR helps, for example Google known to index pages faster for high PR sites.

So how do you decide which sites you want links from and which sites you don't?

Google does not really show you your backlinks.. try Yahoo Site Exporer, there you can find almost all the backlinks you have.

interestingly enough, one of my sites moved up PR recently after we started removing those inbound links that had high bounce rates.

moved down from roughly 35% bounce to around 20% now - took a few months to achieve this, but the higher PR is starting to give us much better rankings for other keywords.

it depends on the quality itself. One quality PR4 dofollow backlink are enough for you to achieve PR1

I did some experimenting with not only getting good PR backlinks, but to also get rid of links that were not relative to my niche content, it seems to
help increase my overall PR ranking. It is sometimes a pain , however to ask someone to kindly remove your existing link.

Use a rule? (i forget what these are called) like this to find sites to post at, then check their PR:

site:.com inurl:blog "post a comment" -"comments closed" -"you must be logged in" "KEYWORD"

Try writing articles then giving them away in exchange for a link.

I agree with that but gaining PR1 should go easy... some few backlinks should do it (one having a 'quality' backlink).

    Our website was a PR5.
When we upgraded our website design to a 2.0 , All of our important top level inside pages went from PR4 and PR3 to PR0. ALL OF THEM.
So, was almost impossible to ask for link exchanges. It took 6 months after the rebuild to get the insides pages to get ranked again, but mostly PR 3 , 2 1 and the
index page went down to a PR4. Doesn't make sense
