My Website (several years old) has enjoyed PR3 for a long time. Recently, I added about 30 new pages to it at once. Shortly afterwards, I noticed that the Site now has PR2. Is it normal? Will the ranking rebound? What's your experience?
If all those new pages have a link pointing back to the home page, then no, I wouldn't blame the new pages for lowering your PR.
This should not happen, unless you have also done something else like ... copy the content / duplicate content, used some illegal linking practices, over-optimized the content, etc. Have you checked your backlinks count? have they gone down? There is just not a single direction in which to look and find the answer. You will need to look and evaluate everything, design, content, seo. PM me the url of the site, I will be glad to give my two bits.
Impossible the only way your page rank value could have declined is because Google has recently changed its algorithms or that you have stopped making changes up and building backlinks
Thank you for everyone's input. No, I don't engage in any illegal practices. I analyzed the backlinks, they're fine. I don't blame the change of rank on Google either because my many other Websites have exactly the same ranking as before. Perhaps, I simply need to wait till the new pages get indexed.... Even though I didn't take anyone's advice, or even the kind offer of taking a closer look at my Website, there is something that I want to say. I am pretty new here and I am VERY impressed by the members' good will and responsiveness which I truly appreciate! Thank you each and everyone who took the time to respond.
I had something similar recently when we added four hundred pages to my site and we disappeared off google for a while like two weeks and then came back.
Generally adding quality pages should increase your PR (eventually). Maybe someone removed a high PR link to your site
Hehe @Tony King i don't think adding 400 pages to a site is 'similar' to adding '30' pages. In your case it probably flagged up some sort of spam measure in Google because of too many pages appearing all of a sudden. @Ceila your Google PR isn't everything. Checking keyword rankings, analytics and sales or conversions. Google does put alot of trust in it's bot and when a significant increase in number of pages increases it does take precautions. But it shouln't decrease your PR. I'm thinking Google PR update is coincidental with you adding your new pages.
I don't think so. Adding new pages would have no effect on PR. In fact, Google loves it when you add new contents to a site. Forget about PR. If your traffic and SERP are doing good, it's fine.
You have a good point, I see where you're going with it, but no, I didn't. I appreciate your contribution though and that's the latest news: the newly added pages are beginning to pop up on Google. The ranking didn't rebound yet but I see it as a sign of progress....
Adding new pages to your site with original content shouldn't decrease your PR, if anything it should add value to your website.
Ceila, Don't be upset for what you have, tryn focus on getting more links, same things happened with me in past, my site dropped to pr0 from 2 suddenly, but after a months later it jumped to Pr3.. I say its a miracle.
Thank you for your support and encouragement. This forum is more of a community than many a community.... I'm very glad I joined!
