How to make a Youtube video popular?

I wonder how can I make my Youtube video to be popular - so that it is showed on the top of the search results on Youtube for my keywords?

I know I should include all keywords that I'm targeting in the title of my video, but how can I get my video to be popular? I have noticed that videos with the highest number of views show on the top of the search results. So how can I get to the top? Is it all just about making a really great video that people will like and will rank it - and this is the way to the top?

 

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's just whichever ones has the most views and such. Also, FUnny and weird stuff go viral. So if you can make your video with a bit of humor, it'll help in the long run.

Also remember it's not all about getting a high search term for a certain set of keywords may be difficult (since they may be competitive) - I get a lot of hits from the "suggestions" tab.

 

You want to get your video picked up by and posted on some of the big sites. Share you video on the usual, Facebook, Twitter etc. If it is good and not your usual everyday video then if you are lucky it may go viral then you have a real hit on your hands.

I think you can only do so much to advertise your video (and yes, this is still very important) but if you create a remarkable and memorable video- whether its funny, shocking, heart-warming, etc; that is what is going to get you views and will make people want to share your video to others. Or do the videos with the highest numbers have the highest numbers because they're on the top from good SEO? I'd have to more side with this argument because I've searched for videos before and videos with really low numbers but are relevant to my search trump videos with really high numbers and are just somewhat relevant to my search. I do think numbers/popularity definitely play a factor, tho.

But to answer your question, make sure to do the typical SEO from title to description; but if not more importantly, make your video stand out over the competition which can either mean that your video provides uber quality content or is funnier/crazier than related videos. Then when you bookmark the video people will see the difference in your video and share it and share it. This is how things go viral. That's good.

Targeting a low competition niche is good, and higher ratings can help, as well.

 

One of the main points is to not just focus on YouTube. Use sites like TubeMogul to submit to many video sites thus increasing your exposure. The more exposure you have for your videos the better. If it's funny or informative it could be worth looking into bookmarking sites. If you don't offer anyone value with the video no-one will care.
