Hi, Let me take an example to explain my situation: I have a site on clothing in UK called mysite.com I have apply onpage site work like title, meta, re-write urls etc. I understand what keywords to target for each of the sub-pages, example, target "workwear" for pages similarly. For that I applied all the Offpage work, like directory submission, article posting, forum posting, bookmarking, press release, blogging etc; in relative markets and uk based, yet I dont get listed with my targeted keyword in top of 100 of search engine result pages. What Should I go ahead and again use "workwear, corporate clothing" as the primary keyword on the home page as well. Would it not compete with the /overview pages on rankings. Please advice. And Thank you for your valuable time. Thanks.
for e-commerce seo could be tricky. because the competition is high. for example if you sell apparel and try to rank for that, it would take long long time and lot of money. as an alternative you have to pick less competitive keywords. for example "corporate clothing" like you said. you have to research the competition, possible business from them. i would suggest creating landing pages for each of those targeted keywords, link from home page, and trying to have them rank well instead of the home page.
I agree with webcosmo. I wouldn't try to make one page all-inclusive. Have several pages optimized for each keyword and market each page separately.
