Dofollow links from social bookmarking?

I noticed a lot of people in this forum mention social bookmarking as a good link building technique. Does it really work for anyone? I mean, as in producing indexed links visible in Yahoo Site Explorer or Google Webmaster Tools? Do those links last long, or do they fade away in a month? How exactly do you use social bookmarking sites to get dofollow links?

I had zero success with this so far. I tried to bookmark my pages on Digg, Reddit and StumbleUpon, and also posted them to a Facebook page and a Twitter feed. I could not see a singe indexed link from these submissions.

Do you have to use automated tools like Bookmarking Demon, or does it make sense doing this with a few popular bookmarking sites by hand? How do you find dofollow bookmarking sites? Are any of them real and popular, or are they just some obscure link farms with zero link value?

700+ sites are clearly not practical to process by hand. What software do you use? I found a free tool at socialmarker.com, but it only supports about 40-50 predefined sites.

Can you list 10-20 of those sites from which you actually saw indexed links in Yahoo Site Explorer or Google Webmaster Tools? Or give us the URL of the website that you promote using this list?

 

I did buy Bookmarking Demon but its interface wasn't the ideal. It was not user friendly and I personally didn't like it at all, besides it wasn't really automated as you have to enter Captchas and to be honest I got totally lost in it and eventually had to get a refund. In terms of success from Social bookmarking sites, you are quite right because after submitting my site in almost 70+ social bookmarking sites I got only two indexed links (one is from Folkd and the other one is from Jumptags).

I am trying to focus more on High PR Forums, Blogs and Articles these days, Social bookmarking hasn't been my cup of tea.

P.S I randomly clicked on 5 sites from the above list, none of them are working

What software do you use? Or did you manually go through all those sites?

How long have you been using social bookmarks for link building? Can you share some of your results? What percentage of bookmark sites actually show up as indexed links in Yahoo or Google tools? Any specific sites you noticed which produce reliable results?

 

You're welcome. Like you I usually use the Social Marker website whenever I publish a new page/article. I have not checked which ones were indexed, but I use a program called, IBP for SEO analysis, and that seems usually to count a number of them- although not sure which ones.

But recently, I decided that I have got to take website development more seriously if I want to build something successful, so I decided to kick my own ass. I have been using a DigiXMass Submitter recommended by a friend. This submits automatically to over 2000 websites and even has a decapture facility. I am also going to be working manually with a customized list.

I actually had the stamina to go through all those sites manually. I also use RSS Submit for instant backlinks. But I have not done much to verify which social bookmark sites have been indexed by Google etc.

 

P.S- I am also registering with relevant topic forums that allow links in signature etc. I have neglected this in the past- this would offer a good supply of back links.

 

Once I have submitted my article to a social book marking site, should they be "Pinged"? I noticed someone uses a RSS feed to to get instant backlinks. Does anyone know this process?

 

you can also try delicios. It help in ranking and bring good quality visitors.

 

A dofollow link is a real backlink to your site. A search engine spider will follow such a link and index site pages, while a nofollow link will remain unnoticed. That is why dofollow bookmarking sites are what you need.

 

i recomend mixx.com, folk and delicios. I am using this and they are dofollow

The main social bookmarking sites are nofollow. However, all is not lost - they can be a very good source of traffic so you shouldn't discount using them just because they aren't dofollow.
