thats enough i guess, bcoz if worked properly u cud make 300 links in that time but that of low qaulity.

but as much as 10 minimum links of high pr, also that cud be done in 1 hr only

When it comes to Internet Marketing, you should NEVER focus on the amount of hours you should spend. The reason is because you could spend 24 hours a day working on your business and promoting your site but get little to no results.

It's all about leverage and finding what works and continuing to do just that over and over again. You'll soon realize that the 80/20 rule is so important in IM.
Because 80% of your results will come from 20% of your work. So, just focus on the critical FEW things that work for you and focus just on them.

And since I assume you are a beginner to Internet Marketing, you should focus on Forum posts, Article marketing and blog commenting.
Make 5 -10 forum posts a day on the top 3 forums in your niche, write 1 article a day, and make 5 comments on the most ACTIVE blogs in your niche everyday.
However long it takes you to do this, is "how many hours a day should you promote your website".

    I speak from experience.

As long as you can BUT REMEMBER - you want to keep the consistent, means - dont work 24 hours the first day and 1 hour a month from now, keep the 2 hours a day even for the long term

if you have enough budget, you should hire a team (2-3 people) who will work 8 hours per day (posting, write content, SEO analysis and etc.)

    Hey apelpolo, Good advise.
I have heard something similar to this method mentioned by some pretty successful marketers. I think it was 30 min on and 5 off. I guess I should start listening. I think there is something to the break. It clears your head and makes you more efficient than working strait through.

The more hours, the more traffic, how much traffic do you want?

It's not the amount of hours you spend on marketing your site but rather the amount of hours doing productive marketing meaning actually doing the work that will make you money off that site, bring traffic, optimize etc. Always remember that quality is better than quantity.

Me personally, I spend as long as it takes to implement my strategy whether that be 20 minutes, 2 hours or even 2 weeks. As long as it gets done it means I am moving forward in my business.

My answer = Far too much time, in the new year my new years resolution is to automate my marketing tasks as much as possible even if it take me a whole month to set up just thinking about how much time it would free up is crazy.

I think you can spend as much or as little time marketing your site but should always focus on getting the best and most targeted result for your inputs. for example work out first and foremost how much your return on time invested should be, then should the links you build be targeted toward SEO or just traffic. Don't get me wrong search engines are a big deal but Links are an even bigger deal so make sure you plan properly with the up most best results that directly lead to increased financial or credibility gain.

A daily 2-3hours of site promotion is alright. Just make sure that you spend that time into traffic generation that really works. It is not really hard to get traffic. What is hard is to convert that traffic into sales/clicks or whatever you want it to.

Well, I have to disagree with most of the answers here.
If your website is your main income source, and your goal is to reach Google's 1st page, it's a FULL TIME JOB, and don't think otherwise.
If it's a hobby, and you don't care it will take you a year to reach people, then you can spend 2-3 hours a day, true. Otherwise, you need to work hard to level up your PR and Google position.
And it's not just buying links. There is SO MUCH work around a website, it's time consuming and very hard work.

On the other hand, most people get into IM to free themselves from a full time job.

If promoting website becomes another full time job, isn't that defeat the purpose in the first place?

That's why I think automation is the way to go. Life is too short. We can't use our labor to fight the software tools used by the big guys.

    That's my point.
I mentioned at the beginning that ONLY if this is your primary job, you should consider it as a full time job.
BTW, automation only goes so far. I also use automation but many things are done manually, and there are many other "business" stuff that are also time consuming.
