Google Instant and Google Local will also play a major role in the changing SEO

    Hi,
The main change to traditional SEO we see with Google Instant is that fewer keywords are now being used in searches. But,from a SEO perspective, the technical aspects and the amount of bandwidth behind these types of searches will come into the light. Additionally Google Local adds another element, allowing for maps results, video results and funneling traffic through Google's YouTube property, can change the click distribution on search engine results pages (SERPS) -- putting your site in the spot on a SERPS that gets most clicks -- which is what SEO is all about. This changes the rule so that now the site that has the most attractive/relevant preview will generate the higher number of clicks, so adding in location-based keyword analysis is going to become even more important.

It has been more than 2 months now since Instant went live and I must say that initial fears of SEO's were very much unfounded.

Yeah, but it's not that nice for people without local businesses, that still want to compete with local businesses.
And Google instant will make it more difficult for the smaller non local businesses to compete because we will be fighting for a smaller amount of keywords.

I'm personally not so happy with the changes.

I am not best pleased either, its tough when your trying to rank a business where you cover a certain area of towns, but don't really have a business address (Driving School)

A Driving School with its main areas of Poole and Bournemouth, wishing to expand outwards to Ferndown, Dorchester, Ringwood. This is hard when you dont have an address at each of these places to allow for a places listing.

    Any suggestions?

If you consider that the number of searches being done via mobile phone has increased it is not surprising that fewer keywords are used.

It is the nature of using technology - make something fast.. then make it faster, and faster, and faster....

Given that people now become inpatient if it takes more than 5 seconds to load a site, searches will no doubt get even shorter.
