It's usually painful the first time you try Adwords or any other PPC search engine. Many things can go wrong but that doesn't mean you can't make money on Adwords.

The following things are important to keep you CPC low and CTR high:
    - Do a thorough keyword research using wordtracker or other tools.
    - Don't mix too many different keywords in the same adgroup - concentrate.
    - Your ad text should match the keywords in the ad group
    - Separate a keyword with high CTR in it's own adgroup with matched adtext
    - Split-test your ads. Even one character can change the CTR dramatically

Your average visitor value must be higher than the cost for the traffic you buy to make break even on your PPC campaigns. If not you lose money.

My experience is that visitors you buy has lower conversion rate than visitors that are referred through organic listings.

I agree.. These are often casually clickers and can cost you quite a lot of money. It's alll down to how specific your ad and phrases you bid on are to your site. Meaning, don't waste money on terms like 'car leasing' but focus on 'lease a BMW 318ES' - That way your really getting the people who are interested in leasing a BMW 318ES

Adwords will never be successful if you use it for a shorter period.

    Adwords system works like this:

    1- Setup
    2- test
    3- tweak
    4- test
    5- tweak
    6- test
    7- tweak
    8- Go to step 2

    Tim

P.S. If you are interested, please PM me... I have a suggestion about lowering your cost per click... this makes a potential to increase the ROI.

all the PPC programs like adwords are basicly like gambling .. everyone will tell you tweak.. well thats almost true.. as you tweak the people at google tweak as well.. :)

you are an affilate forget it..if you run the site that sell something.. well.. don't fight to be #1, simply get your name out.. get people seeing your name

its not importent if they don't buy the first time.. if they see you in the Ads and in the organic results and on yahoo and everywhere else.. they will get the point .. its a site they can trust and buy from.

I've had campaigns convert straight from the get go. The thing with PPC is if it doesn't convert on the first or second day, then you need to re-evaluate and tweak things.

The best suggestion is to make sure your ads are very targeted, it's all too easy to get a lot of casual clicks which will never convert because your keywords are too general.

Defintely combine what Binko and girl2005 have said and you won't go too far wrong.

Adwords doesnt work very well because you never know where the clicks are coming from. If your in even the slightest of competitive niches you will get alot of garbeage clicks.

Therefore, I dont recommend adwords at all. I don;t like to give my money to google for essentially garbage traffic.

Instead, I focus on SEO and optin lists whihc are better.

With SEo you can get garbage traffic and I DONT have to pay for it.
