Do you agree with this statement below; Add WWW / Strip WWW one. Make a choice, and set it here, don't enable both, some search engines still can't handle that. ---- Simple, i ask about this because i've used both on one of my sites. And i think maybe i've really been doing harm my site. Thanks.
Yes you should choose one and apply a 301 redirect from the other one (or if you don't have access to do that use rel=caonical tag) or the search engines will see each version as a different page. So for example if you have 100 backlinks to the non-www and 150 backlinks to the www version and you choose one and add the 301 you will have the power of 250 backlinks combined, if you dont you will be losing the links that point to the version Google doesn't rank.
Oh, i've deleted my non www and i had 35 backlinks to that version. Does it mean that i've lost those 35 backlinks?
Absolutely right Stevie... He should choose one and apply a 301 redirect from the other one.............
It's really down to what you want, if you want your website to have www, then keep it, otherwise remove it, it doesn't really have any effect on the search engines, as long as you stick to one or the other, swapping between the two or using both, well it can cause you all kinds of problems. It's best to decide the day you buy the domain/create the website, so you'll website will be indexed and will always have been with/without www.
As most of the visitors like to see www domains instead of non www.. therefore its always preferable to use www domains.. from seo point of view, it doesnt matter whether you are using www or non www..you just need to tell to google in webmaster tool that which domain you prefer..
choose one. It will be affected to your SERP. Use redirect 301. access your .httacess, or just confirm your hosting platform to do it.
Yeah you should choose 1 and 301 redirect the other, I prefer the www. but make no difference really which you go for aslong as you do pick one and 301 redirect the other. This should be done as they are treated as different pages by search engines yet they will have the same content meaning duplicate content and more importantly you will find you end up with some people linking to the www. version and other will link to the non www. version splitting your inbound links like this reduces the impact they have on your site.
Honestly, I don't think that it matter that much. I am currently working on more than 60 SEO websites, some have www. some doesn't have and few have canonical. Generally I don't think that it affect SEO as soon as your website is in GA and Google webmaster tools!
