Description Meta Tag Isn't Working?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by zm21, Nov 29, 2010.

I changed the description meta tag of our customer's website 1 week ago and still on the search results the description is the short written paragraph used inside the page. How come?

Why the Google spider bot doesn't see the website's description meta tag?
Is there any solution or something to do to solve this?

    Thanks guys.

Add Title tag & Keyword meta tags. Because Title tag is displayed in the Google results...

That means Google has not crawled your page after changes. Sometimes it take time. For fast results you can perform bookmarking of that page or build some links for that targeted page.

Your changes to the website will update in real time, but it'll take a while for the Google bot to visit your page, and it takes a little bit longer for the SERPs page to update. You're still viewing the cached results probably. You could try clearing the cookies for that site, but more than likely you'll just need to wait. As long as the changes show up in the source code you'll be okay.

You can easily check when the last time was that the spider crawled your site to see if the changes you have made have been noticed yet. If the site has not been crawled since the update, just give it some time, it will happen soon.

Your page title is the main entry gate of search engines. Changing the title meta-tag could easily make your Google rankings fluctuate. If you change your title, Google and other search engines will take some time to reflect rankings for new titles. Especially, it would definitely look suspicious in the eyes of Google and other search engines if you have made the changes in the main title and description tags after a long time.

Also make sure you have written the meta tags in standard formats and free from typos otherwise wait some time to get it re-indexed.

Thanks for the replies but the website is a very high PR and popular website so it takes only one day to be crawled by Google bot.

We also changed the title meta tags and all others. The source code is okay. The title changed already.

But the problem is the description meta tag. For only once we saw the new description tag for one day and then it dissappeared. On search results we always see a part of a paragraph which is written inside the page as the description lines.

Search engines may take time to crawl the pages, so be patient and wait.
