How much to charge for in text links

I have just come across this forum while googling for an anwer to my question, I see that a similar question has been asked before, I hope I am not breaking the forum rules, as my understanding was that to post my question in the other thread would be hijacking the thread. Here is my problem and I don't know what to do.
In march this year a company contacted me and asked me to put links from my site to theirs, We negotiated and thy paid me $400 US to put 5 links on my blog site for a year. This was sorted out and an agreement was made and I got paid in under 24 hours.
They have contacted me again wanting links from three of my sites but their negotiating this time is driving me crazy. When they contacted me this time they asked me how much to put their links on all of my sites. I asked for a bit more this time based on the fact that my sites are improving in ranking and I believed they were worth more now.
They have been very slow with responses, this has dragged out for a week this time. They sent an email yesterday asking for in text non highlighted non underlined permanent links for $3 each. I have replied to this email stating that my websites were not blog farms and that I was disappointed in there offer. I said that I thought my initial proposal for the sidebar links was fair, and that I did not want to commit to "permanent" links, and what does that mean anyway? (till I die? till they die?)
I have just received another email from them saying they are moving away from sidebar links and how much for one year for non underlined, non highlighted, in text links.
I have no idea what to tell them, and I am worried that I am missing something here, Why would they want non underlined non highlighted links?
I will be very grateful for any advice on this.

    Hi,

Since paid links are not encouraged by Google (and competitors) so i guess they are trying to stay low.

The price depends on PR, ranking and niche.

It can b anywhere from 8 dollars per month to 900 dollars per month (for a PR 9 geniune website )

I don't have any experience about Adsense and infolinks text ads. I want to ask that how much google pay us through adsense and infolinks.

Thank you so much for you answer seoz28. these guys want the links for a year. So as my sites are pr2 I am thinking about 12 per month. I might put that to them and see how I go.

$400 US for 5 links is a good deal for you - especially for a pr2

    What niche are you in?

We buy permanent links and we tell our clients -- Permanent links last for the lifetime of the website or until it changes owners. That's how I define it, but others would want you to transfer the links to the new owner.

How many backlinks do you have? How many outbound links? In both your blogposts & sidebars? The quality of the content on the site can also dictate price, although PR is the major factor.

Thank you all for your feedback, I have just received an email from these people this is what they have said " Text link ads are different than in-text links (in-post links).

With in-text links, words will appear hundreds of times within in a niche blog, and at that volume, the going rate is about $1.00 per page rank.
That site has a PR of 2, yet I offered you $3.00.

If you were page rank was 5, I would be willing to pay you $5.00 per link, then the hundreds of times those words already appear, and will continue to in the future, would generate a healthy revenue stream.

There are thousands of embroidery and sewing blogs on the internet, so I will move on, as there are many others that will take me up on this offer.

However, I would rather buy in-text links from somebody who I already buy text-link ads from, so I am extending this offer one more time.

    Please advise."
I still don't know what to do. the purpose of my blog is to link to my website where I sell my product. I don't want to give all my link juice away but at the same time I could use some extra money. I would love to hear the opinions of others on this.

I agree. If you think that your website is good enough, you should put the price accordingly but a normal price for PR2 would be around $10 - $50 per year. $400 for 5 links is a great deal for you but if the deal take too much time and efford, you should just move on.

I have been offered money for links also but I have always turned them down. Regardless if you do opt to sell links, I think it would be a mistake to sell permanent ones.
