Search the forum here and you will find a wealth of info on this exact topic. You utilize the search function in google for your keyword and .edu or .gov, then the term "powered by wordpress". It's searching for the footprint of a blog. I've been able to use google search for my niche and find a handful of good .edu and 1 or 2 .gov sites.

you use scraping profiles to find the links ( in search engines or software ), but the trick is knowing the right search terms or profiles to find them :p

You can simply find the .edu & .gov domains or any other domain by a simple query in search engine.
Refer this Ezinarticles to get the strategy of .edu back links.

.edu or .gov links inherently hold no more weight than any other links. That they do is a myth. It just so happens that from time to time the content on said sites is a bit more authoritative.

Thanks Nigel, great point. I would pay more attention to the PR of the specific webpage rather than domain extensions.

I am sorry but that comment is utter rubbish.
.gov and .edu carry a lot of weight when used correctly, I have personally ignited websites using these.

You can search for that site in google using the query "site:*.edu" or "site:*.gov".

The problem is as soon that the good ones are known, they get spammed and loose all their authority, SY

Use .edu or .gov in inverted comas when making search in google. Remember Gov site normally not add your links
