SEO would be the same for other sites. I don't think you'll find many people that are big fans of free websites. You need your own domain. Using Wordpress blogs to help with SEO of your main domain is probably a better option by linking back to your main site.

I post excerpts and titles of my blogs and link back to the main article on my domain. I don't know that even this does a lot of good but it helps some. I think Blogger might be a better place to do this. Though I Wordpresss gives you dofollow links. I don't think Blogger does. I need to check on that.

I'm wrong, Blogger does provide do follow links. The reason I think Blogger might be better is that I setup google alerts for most of my keywords. I get a lot of Google alerts from my blogger site. I don't see that from my Wordpress sites. Sometimes I think someone stole my content, then I remember that it is my blogger account. LOL :) Google owns blogger so that could be the reason they like it more. :)

because it's on a free host, you probably can't upload the free seopressor clone from bloggerhigh. You can follow the guidelines it implements though, which are as recommended by Google. Or you could shell out a couple of dollars and get some real hosting that you have some control over.

I agree with Codd, Adding unique content is the best form,
    along with
    - Be proactive on your blog, blog frequently
    - All in One SEO Plugin is good, as it allows you to add title and other Meta Tags
    - Google XML Site Map Plugin is also another good tool, which updates your xml sitemap every time you post

Your best bet is to start building links, get your link out in as many avenues as you can.

Wordpress is as good as the plugins you have.
Install as many relevant & good seo plugins which can automate quite a bit of the on-page optimization task for you.

I agree that free websites don't attract as many as owned domains do. Not to offend, but there are free websites which have great content and their own fans too. I don't think people choose to read on the basis of free/owned domains.

I haven't used the free wordpress for, well forever, so I dunno if you can install plugins, but install commentluv, all in one seo, dofollow, releated posts etc. Then do some social bookmarking/article marketing/press release's to get the ball rolling. :)
