PageRank conspiracy theory

Discussion in 'Google' started by arcadeorama, Dec 4, 2010.

Is anyone a fan of conspiracy theories? I'm working on one for PageRank...

Google has wanted for a long to stop exporting the PageRank to the toolbar. Problem with that is, if they just flat-out stop doing it, people will just move on to something else, something not created by Google. So they stop it, and just update a few handful of pages here and there so the rest of us will have hope of ever seeing an update. But most sites created after April '10 will not see anything greater than a PR0. By updating only a few pages every month, they guarantee that people will continue to talk about it (Google and PageRank) for years to come. They made sure that some of the updates were from high pageranks down to zero to ensure some people would definitely say something publicly.

It's just a rough draft for now...

Pretty much par for the course as far as conspiracy theories go.

As I said, there is no major page rank update anymore. All the updates are made on-the-fly.

But, if you don't want to believe this, if your page rank is not as expected by you, then wait for a major update, but be prepared for a long waiting.

to add to this theory, Google will start assassinating anybody who makes a tool similar to Pagerank. Of course they do have a patent, so the easy way out would be a long prison sentence and hefty fines (for the perp).

One last thing. Matt Cutts is a Ninja. Bet you didn't know that? You will never bump into Matt Cutts at the airport. Why? Because he's a Ninja that's why.

page rank is a gonna, tbh page rank means nothing! Traffic - Content - Revenue are the big 3.

I second that. And there will be a few that will wait April the 1st 2011, full year after last update. And that could be it. No one will wait after that.

PR is dead, and the only reason it has not been put in a coffin and laid to rest, is the fact that it was the pet project of Mr Page the co Google Founder..

It’s only a matter of time till one of the minions plucks up the courage and stands up to Page, and says “look, this is a pup and it needs to go away”

Close, but not exactly right. People will what. . . stop using Google and use something else because there are no little green bar updates? That's absurd. Or will people move on to some other little green bar made by someone else? Even more absurd.

Google can't get rid of toolbar PR. The uproar would bring huge controversy and lots of bad press. So, they'll simply let it die a slow death. All they have to do is *nothing*. No updates. No changes. No talk. No nothing. Then, one day when everyone has forgotten about some little green bar of ages ago, it will be replaced on the toolbar by some shiny new gadget and no one will even notice.

I have also noticed google is not doing anything about sites that bought their pagerank. They are letting them sell links to the highest bidder still. I would assume google is planning to slowly eliminate showing pagerank. The problem is there will also be methods for ranking, so if google doesn't want in on that game then Alexa, Compete, Yahoo Inlinks, etc will take over pagerank's role in how people do business.

Yep... absurd was actually what I was going for. All this waiting for the little green bar to update has driven me crazy...:p
Well, they're not quite doing nothing. There's frequent reports of pages here and there getting updated... they're going to drag it out as long as possible...?
