    optimize your page properly:

    1. Make it more appealing
    2. Less ads
    3. make sure the keyword are really related with your page
    4. post some freebies or anything readers may interest to read your site.
    5. Use flash or banner to catch readers ice
    6. Avoid too much word article
    7. make it clean and pleasant to eyes

Note: you only have 5 secs to catch readers attention. Goodluck!

I dont know if it actually does affect ranking but ideally it should since a bounce rate is a reflection of the relative satisfaction of a reader.

But there are some sites where the reader may be satisfied with a page but there is no need to surf around the site for resolving the readers purpose. Such sites may also have a high bounce rate where the reader is entirely satisfied with the one page that they visited and read is happily and then exit.

So for this purpose the time on site parameter should also be properly used. If a site with a high bounce rate has a very low time on site values too then it is very clear that visitors are not finding the content appropriate and are leaving without even bothering to read. Such sites should be filtered out of search results by google.
This is an ideal way how google should operate but who will go ahead and tell the arrogant big G...

    Just my 2 cents.

I don't think Google can find out your Bounce Rate except if you use Google Analytics.
As far as to minimize it, just keep the page interesting and also keep the advertisements in a limit.

There is a theory that it can hurt your site - so maybe if your site looks lousy and has a 80%+ bounce rate remove analytics for now

If it doesn't have any affect on the rank, then why Google collects this data?

yes it does google wants to provide best results and if people are bouncing off your site than google will knock you down and assume you are not the best

In my opinion bounce rate affects your ranking a lot. People use google to find satisfactory results, if your bouce rate is high then google will think people are not satisfied with the search results. So google puts you down.

I think bounce rate doesn't affect ranking, it affects traffic. To minimize bounce rate, add articles in your site or you can also add more features for visitors to spend more time on the site..

Yes bounce rate has effect on your ranking. Google consider many factors for ranking, bounce rate is one of them. In order to decrease bounce rate you should make your site interesting and user friendly.
