    you can go to siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com , find out how many backlinks you have on Yahoo.

    I have this free tool when i check my competitors backlinks:

    1. opensiteexplorer.org - it can track upto 1k-10K Backlinks, keywords used, Page Autority, DoFollow <-- Highly Recommended
    2. siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com - can check upto 1K backlinks even the latest crawled and indexed by Y!
    3. backlinkwatch.com - upto 1K backlinks, Keyword use, Total outbound links

    The other tool is paid tool which I really don't recommend since you can have it FREE

    while reading your question again.. what i refer you is to check competitors backlink. To check your own backlinks from google, yahoo and bing install SEOQuake. A free firefox addon, chrome also have it but i use it more often in Firefox.

    use backlink analyzer from seo book a very trusted tool to know the backlinks. If you want to check manually type link:yoursitename.com in google and see your all site backlinks in google

    Yahoo site explorer is not to be trusted, it doesn't find many links which have been indexed and it overcounts links which shouldn't be counted such as sitewide blogroll links

    The search query link:sitename.com only give you a small portion of the links. I tried it many times. siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com does not work well either. The good choice is backlinkwatch.com.
