We have an old email list that we used to market to few years ago(about 15000) and most were not OPT-in (even thus we never had a complain). . However; at this point we would like to clean it up and convert it to an OPT-IN list before using it again. Do you know of any Company that can do that for us . Thanks

    Just to clarify...
So this email list was never single or double opt-in, or was it single and just not double opt-in?

The only way really to make it opt-in now would be to email them asking them to sign up to a proper autoresponder list (either single or double opt-in). I don't believe any proper/quality company would take 15k email addresses and simply add them to a list without knowing where they came from and how the list was originally compiled.

The list was never single nor double Opt-in. I have Aweber right now but they will not accept a Non Opt-in list to be uploaded. Where do I have such a Company that can send a One time email to convert them to Opt-in or Opt-out

I think you might have to use a self-hosted script/program to email them yourself. There are autoresponder programs out there that you can buy and host on your own site, I think this would be your best bet. Email them from that program asking them go to an Aweber sign up form (so dont keep using your self-hosted program).

Some people use a self-hosted autoresponder, but I dont recommend that. But it could work for you.
Sorry though, I'm not informed of the different kinds of self-hosted autoresponders out there, I just know about the autoresponder services like Aweber.

Download a program to clean your emails first. The program will check to see if the email address's are still existent. Then email that list explaining why you are emailing in your optin / optout section - you could send your normal email with that but make it clear why you are sending it and give them the option to opt out. If your newsletter is any good you might get people who opt in. I have a newsletter and more people opt in than they do opt out! just remember to put your email address in the email as the email would of been forwarded.

Well said BW1! - I am also thinking as the list several years old, people have moved on in what they need and want and where they live ... The world of the internet is a FAST world!

Have you looked at hosted autoresponder services? MailChimp.com had a blog post (I can't find it right now) about how they've do the conversion - simply e-mail the entire list again and asked to opt in. If it's a good list 70-90% rejoin.
