When I'm being introduced to someone for the first time I'm generally asked the same question at some point. "What do you do"? That my friends is a loaded question and I still have not found an appropriate answer to it. 1. Sometimes i say the internet... But thats pretty vague and people want to know more. 2. Sometimes I say that I make web sites, and I do, but they then think that people pay me money to make web sites for them, which I don't. 3. Then they always ask me "how do you make money doing that?". Then I explain about putting ads on my sites, cpm, ppc, affiliates, featured links on my directories and generally too much information that I really didn't care to bore them with. I do lots of things. I make web sites, manage websites, own directories, program, SEO, SEM, article writing, social media, try to exploit a niche, on and on. Is there a word or a phrase I could say when I'm asked what I do that they could understand without going down the explanation road? I don't ask a janitor or secretary how they make there money and find it a little too nosy when people ask me how I make my money. Do you have similar experiences and do you have any ideas?
I am in a same boat as you. But all i can do is telling them am doing business on internet though they never understand what actually i am doing. But no worries. DON.
Yes. It's "Internet Marketing," however depending on who you talk to, you're still going to have to explain your role.
Wateva you say, they'll need a big explanation. So, get used to it... It's difficult but there's no other way...
Well, most of them don't know most of things on internet. Only thing they know is websites... I say I create website or design it. Lol.
Saying something about the Internet. No details, 'cause I'm too lazy to explain everyone what SEO is.
Just tell them that you are a webmaster, you own a website and earn through advertisements. Don't tell too much techy stuff that only we can understand.
lolz...very VERY same situation here. In fact, some even want to step into my kinda work and even annoying is the fact that they want me to teach what this whole funda is all about. Nowadays, whenever someone ask me "what do you do"? I simply say, "trying my luck on some good-paying jobs,do you know any?". Seriously!
