Why Webmaster add meta tag in web page while Google does not give any important to meta tag?

 

You might be surprised to know that although Google doesn't pay much attention to meta tags nowadays, they are still important as a ranking factor in Yahoo and Bing.

 

Why? Because it's a good SEO practice to have them.

 

Yes.. it's actually part of on-page optimization of a site. Meta tags is one of the means for the search engine spiders to determine what the content of a certain web page is about. Ten years ago meta tags used to be very effective for Google search ranking until it got abused by spammers.

These days meta tags *may* still be helpful if you're targeting not-so-competitive keywords to outrank your competitor's site who's one or two position(s) above you in the SERPs. For instance, if you rank #14 in the SERPs for a particular long-tail keyword phrase and you want to be in #12 position, meta tags might help you, provided your competitor (in the #12 position in the SERP) has got equal or lower number of backlinks compared to the number of backlinks you have.

Having said all these, you don't need to pay much attention to meta tags as there are many other important factors to rank higher in the search engines.

Meta tags now a days are only good to have, just to be more professional with things you can say, else it has no importance in search engine eyes

1. there are another search engines other than google
2. when bookmark, some bookmark site will get summary from the meta
