Why does this happen?

One of my keywords were landing me #4 on google. It would fluctuate to #6 at worst...Suddenly today I am 120????

I realize stuff like this happens, but why? Is it something I did/doing?

Don't worry. your listing will be back on the same position after some time. It happens because Google updates its database.

Work on adding or submitting articles for your website...

It could be a normal fluctuation or a Penalty(the 4th page to 120th spot).
Either ways, continue building links consistently and strenghten your backlinks by building more links to them. In this way, you should reach a stable position without any fluctuations.

Try to remember if you changed anything either off-site or on-site. Some text you have added to your site, or some links you got - that might have caused penalty if what you did can be considered as black-hat. If you have changed your text/page elements it is normal for the site to go down in ranks for re-evaluation and it will rise again if you changed it towards bigger relevance.

Don't panic. It could be a Google 'dance' or fluctuation in the SERPs. First, make sure that this isn't a sitewide drop. If you're seeing this across all keywords and pages, then there could be a serious problem. However, if it's only happening on one or two keywords, then it's an isolate incident and you could recover. Double check you haven't made any major changes recently that could have caused this, make sure nothing is broken, etc. and watch it for a few weeks. If you don't see it return to its former rankings, you may need to dig a little deeper to see what the problem is.
