SEO stands for 'Search Engine Optimization' which i term as 'Ethical manipulation of the search engine results to gain a better ranking'. This is solely done to get more exposure and organic visitors to your site.

 

if u can bring in more backlinks from high pr sites, your page ranking will be high.

 

If you want to sell your domain, people will check your pagerank, alexa ranking and total backlinks to your website. So, all you mention is important.

They are all pretty much interconnected. Though off these 4 the main goal in the end is to get more visitors.

PR get you higher in the SEs...
Higher posiion in SEs means more traffic...
More traffic means better Alexa rank...

Focus on backlinks first; and good back links from high PR sites, and the rest will follow. Of course, you need to do your on page SEO first, but that's a given....

 

just share my experience in one of SEO practice : improve alexa rank.
1 month ago, i did not care much about alexa. but when my site have alexa rank 5million, i started to be interested to improve it. There are so many articles in internet how to improve alexa ranks. but what i did is just :
1. install alexa toolbar in my firefox browser
2. install alexa widget in my two sites (see in my signature below).
3. update content 2 times a week.
after 1 month my alexa was 2900000. so my alexa rank decreased 2100000 (2 million). I am just wondering, if it is good achievement or not. becasue nearly i did nothing.

On-Page factors of any website are most important than off-page SEO (I am not saying that off-page SEO isn't important). Now, focusing on getting high pr 'relevant' backlinks will lead you to boosting your Google PR of your site. And that will ultimately result in higher ranking in the SERPs for your targeted keywords.

You can also partially focus on getting no-follow backlinks from high-traffic websites for the sole purpose of driving quality traffic to your site for lead generation.

However, before doing any of the things I've said above, you'd definitely need to write great content and do some On-Page optimization.

Well, SEO is a huge and very complex domain. I will try to keep it simple.

No one knows the exact formula Google uses to rank websites, but what we know that it has two parts that handle the following two aspects:

1- keyword relevancy:
How much the given keyword is relevant to your Website?
To gain this point, we do what we call "Onsite optimization". It's basically a whole check to make sure the keyword(s) is(are) there where it(they) should be.
This aims at telling Google that the given keyword is important for this site.

2- Backlinks:
Google consider a link to your site as a vote for its relevancy.
The work here is to make sure a maximum number of good links from high ranking sites are pointing to your site.

Those are the two big elements, but there are a lot of details in there!

I think bringing more visitors to your website..

 

A, B, C and D is link with another all this combine and form the real meaning of SEO.
All this are important in SEO.

 

I think if you write unique content on your website and optimize it well, then make backlinks from quality websites for your website, your ranking on search engines will be improved, then the traffic you get from search engines will be improved and your Alexa ranking will be deceased ( better ).
And for increasing pagerank the only way is getting backlinks from dofollow high pagerank pages. I suggest you to don't concentrate on pagerank. There are many other important factors for ranking results and pagerakn is only one factor.
