Weight may not be calculated correctly if the website runs co-op on its entire domain

Weight may not be calculated correctly if the website runs co-op on its entire domain. First, I can only say that I am suspecting this. Since there is no formula published, that's all I can do, but looking at the weight for the last couple of months and the latest weight after the latest PR update, something doesn't add up. The following is the actual case I'm looking at:

    1. I entered myDomain.com for the domain in my co-op account:

1.2. This is because I learned that this is how I need to set up the account if I want to run co-op in all my sub domains, and in fact, that's what I've been doing.

    2. site:myDomain.com shows 19,100 pages indexed in Google.

    2.1.

site:www.myDomain.com shows 3 pages indexed in Google.
site:forum.myDomain.com shows 9.390 pages indexed in Google.
site:directory.myDomain.com shows 295 pages indexed in Google.
site:store.myDomain.com shows 8,690 pages indexed in Google.

Looking at this thread http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=6167, I'm guessing that the website should have co-op weight at least 10,000 but the weight gets stuck at 4,500. The number hasn't changed for some time now; all sub domains have PR(3 and 4). I think something is not working, right. I am suspecting that this is due to the fact that myDomain.com's PR is used, which is 0(since there is no IBL pointing to myDomain.com). All IBL point to the root domain point to www.myDomain.com(with www). I think PR of www.myDomain.com should be used instead of myDomain.com, if it's not done so.

Again, I'm only speculating, but I'd like to know why the weight is only 4,500, and not higher.

What does the API show, in terms of indexed pages? It is likely far less than the site: numbers you get going to google.com.

I don't claim to know it all. Neither do I claim that I am expert. I just want to have better idea of what's taking place.

You were saying it wasn't working...

Read my FAQ: http://co-op-faq.blogspot.com and you know exactly how it calculates weight. You can find the right site: counts in the Keyword Tracker or similar places (you will need a Google API key).

    Hi, thanks for the info.

First, I checked page numbers using keyword tracker tool, and I got the following numbers:

site:myDomain.com shows 3,600 pages indexed in Google API and PR0(Pages In URL)
site:www.myDomain.com shows 3 pages indexed in Google API and PR3(Pages In URL)
site:forum.myDomain.com shows 1,750 pages indexed in Google API and PR4(Pages In URL)
site:directory.myDomain.com shows 304 pages indexed in Google API and PR4(Pages In URL)
site:store.myDomain.com shows 1,670 pages indexed in Google API and PR4(Pages In URL)

So, now I know that there is a big difference between Google API and regular Google SE.

Then, I tried to view the following page:

http://co-op-faq.blogspot.com/2005/03/6-weight-weight-loss-issues.html "About This Magical Number And How It Changes... Part 1 of 5"

(I got this url from this page's html code http://co-op-faq.blogspot.com/2005/03/weight-issues-check-list.html)

However, I was unable to view the page. Is this where I can find out about how the weight is calculated?

Ok, I finally found a relevant thread. Please check:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2915

chachi (member name) suggests that 4,500 is the cap for PR0. Now, I don't know if this is correct or not, but I learned that there is a cap for each PR. Also I don't think it's coincidence that someone saw this number. There is a good chance that 4,500 is the cap for PR0. My website has 3,600 pages indexed, according to Google API, while all sub domains have PR(3 or 4). BUT myDomain.com, which I never promoted, has PR0 currently. This is the domain I registered in co-op and I currently have weight 4,500. I think PR0 is currently used to calculate the weight. I think PR3, 4 or both should be used to calculate the weight, but it appears that such is not the case. Again, I can only speculate, but isn't it possible that the weight in this particular case is not calculated correctly(properly)?

It takes the PR from the Base URL so if that's 0 then that's a correct explanation.

Better get your base PR up then or split up your accounts over the subdomains to get full value.

So, after all, you can't run co-op on all sub domains AND obtain fair amount of weight UNLESS you promote the root domain as yourDomain.com (without www); if you're promoting the root domain as www.yourDomain.com (with www), then you won't be getting your full potential co-op weight.

    q1. Is this correct?

q2. Is there any plan to adjust/correct the formula to use PR on each sub domain (supposing that the current formula only looks at the registered domain's PR)?
q3. You can create only one account for the main domain name, i.e., you cannot have different accounts for all different sub domains. Is this correct?

q1) Without being Shawn and knowing for 100% your research and my understunding combined seem to confirm this.

q2) I doubt it. You are the only one having issues with it.

q3) Yes it appears I was wrong there: "You can only have one account per domain! This means you can not sign up again with a subdomain or a subfolder as your Base-URL."

Only Shawn knows the final answer though...

BTW I fixed all broken links.

    :( :( :(
Yeah, it would be great if he can comment on this. If co-op is not designed to work for the set up like this and it has no plan to make any change for this particular set up, then that's fine. I'll just make some adjustment on my end.
    Cool.

Can't you for now change your Base URL to one of the higher PRs (with a decent page count) just to bump your weight for now?

I sure can, but you know, I can wait for a couple of days (until next Monday or Tuesday?) until we hear from him. Surely, I want to address this issue as soon as I can on my end, but I don't need to rush.

BTW, in case like this, i.e., changing the registered domain, can I just make the change in co-op control panel and it does not affect anything at all? Is there anything I need to change in txt file, anything like that?

BTW, thanks for your help. It's been quite helpful.

"forum.myDomain.com shows 1,750 pages indexed in Google API and PR4(Pages In URL)"

Someone else can correct me on this, but I believe 1,750 pages is over the cap for PR4. This would put you at 54K weight. So, even if you could get credit for a PR4 base PR for the whole domain and ALL pages, you won't have more than the 54K weight for just putting it on the forum subdomain.

Can I post the weight here or not? (Moderator, please remove this line if I'm not supposed to post weight here)

As of right now, I have forum.myDomain.com as my registered domain and the weight is 16,000 - 17,000; forum.myDomain.com has PR4. Cap might be around 54k, but 1,750 pages with the top domain PR4 does not reach there.

Ah, ... about 20 now; I had 13 until yesterday. This has nothing to do with the weight cap for the individual account, does it?
