I'm more interested to know how to get more readers instead of publisher, because only real readers will actually click on the ads, not person who submit their articles.

I guess, you need to get a balance between people who submit articles and people who actual visit and read the articles.

 

I would think to promote an article directory to attract visitors, you have to do many things including the following...

1. Accept only quality, well-written articles.
2. Always post the article in the appropriate category.
3. Promote each category as if it were a separate site.
4. Be careful about posting too many "latest articles" links on other categories because it might cause the search engines to become confused about the page's topic.
5. Perhaps pay a few writers to write good quality pieces to "salt" the site.
