Submitting to large amount of directories?

Hello, is it a waste to have your site submitted to "hundred's of directories"?
Could these be decent backlinks? My concern is just wondering also if having bad quality backlinks would negatively affect my search engine rankings?

Directories are not all the same. It is useful if you submit to hundreds of directories at random. Too many people are producing hundreds of very low quality directories. Other directories just don't get around to approving free submissions.

We have been doing a lot of work on the 3000 listings in our free directories list. The list will help you pick and choose which ones to spend your time on. Stay away from the ones in red.

I like how Web-Directories.ws provides personal comments and information regarding each listing. It gives submitters a brief idea on each directory and to decide whether to spend the time to make a submission or not.

Submitting your site to directories is a good way to get one-way backlinks.

Backlinks should be natural or at least they should look like natural. Hundreds of backlinks with the same titles&descriptions will not look like natural.

Submitting your website to a number of decent directories can surely have a good impact and will enhance your web presence. The quality matters a lot while directory submission and not the quantity.

I think directory submission should be done with taking some of these consideration:
    1. post to niche directories..
    2. post to top pr ranked directories
    3. post in deep link directory list

So my friends quality of work is much better than quantity of work.

Quality always matters. If you carefully choose a web directory to submit you site then a lots of submission won't hurt your ranking but may pay back to your time and effort.

    1) Submit your site to those directory older than 5 years, don't pay if they are in the market for less than one or two years.
    2) If you submit to free directory than submit as premium listing, because directory owner would approve lots of free sites than your listing will be lost somewhere in many links.
    3) submit different title, description if you are going to submit to many directories.
